Mr. Jeffrey D. Short

 ABOUT JEFFREY D. SHORT

Jeffrey was born on October 24th, 1961, in Meridian, Mississippi, the fifth of eight children. From an early age, creativity was part of who he was. At just nine years old, he discovered a deep love for drawing—an instinct that would quietly shape his future.

By the time he was fourteen, his artistic talent had already drawn attention from an art school in Minneapolis—the same school attended by Charles Schulz, the creator of Peanuts. But the distance was too far, and his journey took a different path.

Jeffrey graduated from West Kemper High School in 1980. Although he earned an art scholarship, he chose instead to serve his country by joining the United States Navy. As an electrical and mechanical equipment repairman, he traveled the world—experiencing cultures and perspectives across the Philippines, China, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Korea, and Australia.

It was during those travels, especially in the Philippines and Hong Kong, that Jeffrey began designing his own clothing—already blending engineering precision with artistic expression at just 20 years old.

Fast forward more than 40 years.

That lifelong fusion of creativity, discipline, and global inspiration led to a historic innovation: Botail—the world’s first patented hybrid bow-necktie, uniting the bowtie and the necktie into one bold, original design.

Botail is more than fashion.
It is the embodiment of Jeffrey’s journey as a designer, inventor, and visionary—his belief that identity belongs at the center of how we dress.

Now based in Los Angeles, Jeffrey D. Short continues to redefine modern menswear—creating designs that are not only functional, but meaningful… not just worn, but felt.

This is not just a tie.
This is a legacy.

Botail — One Tie Completes All.
